It’s Getting Hot! I-9 Inspections are Here!

We got word a few days ago that the US Department of Labor is adding 250 investigators in the mid-states region.  ICE has the budget to increase enforcement efforts across the country.  Last year alone there were more than 80 changes to the law, either on the Federal or State level when it comes to I-9 compliance and employer sanctions.  Funding for E-Verify has been extended until 2011. 

What does that mean to you?  If your business is not fully compliant it will cost you!  Many employers think they are compliant because they have the Form I-9 on file.  I am going to challenge that notion because the truth is most employers do not begin to meet the standard of full compliance and have not taken steps to protect themelves from the risk of ICE audits.
