Another State Requires E-Verify

Effective July 1, 2009, Anderson County, South Carolina will begin requiring certain companies to use E-Verify to check the legal work status of new hires.

Those rules require owners of private businesses with more than 100 employees to use the E-Verify system or to get a copy of driver’s licenses for all new hires. Smaller businesses have until next year to comply with the same rules.

This adds to the ever growing list of states and municipalities requiring additional steps beyond the federal requirements for the employment authorization verification process.
